Elva Fitzpatrick was committed to making music accessible for all students. During her 65 years teaching music (she finally retired at the age of 83), she worked with people of all ages to expand their love of music.
She met tenor, Harold Walters, during her time at the Senior Centre at Brock House - they married and continued to express their commitment to music education by establishing Kids Sing Chorus in 1988.
Elva and Harold believed that music positively influences the social and cultural development of young people.
Today, we continue their vision, with programs running in one of the most culturally and economically diverse areas in Vancouver. We welcome students in grades 1-3, connecting them with a professional music instructor.
We partner with different schools each season; and have enjoyed calling Lord Selkirk Elementary our "home" choir for several years. Our entire program is funded by private and corporate donations, along with incredibly valuable volunteer administrators, accompanists and board members.
We are proud to keep Elva and Harold's legacy alive.
